You know that your mental health is important, but sometimes it’s hard to know where to start or who to trust when it comes to treatment. It can be tough to find the right help for some conditions. You may have tried traditional therapy or medication, but your symptoms persist. Mindset PrTMS by Serene Health could be the solution you’ve been looking for. We use an individualized approach based on your brainwave patterns and neurocognitive function. This means we can create a treatment plan specifically tailored to you, increasing your chances of success.
What is PrTMS?
You’ve probably heard of heart arrhythmia, but did you know there are also brain arrhythmias? Some experts believe that an irregular brainwave pattern, known as brain arrhythmia, is the cause of many mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, PTSD, OCD, sleep disorders, and addiction.
Personalized repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (PrTMS) is a type of magnetic therapy that uses pulsed magnetic fields to stimulate the neurons in the brain. It targets specific areas of the brain depending on the mental health symptoms, making it a customized treatment for each person. The treatment is non-invasive and does not require any surgery or medication, making it a popular choice for people looking for an alternative means to treat their condition.
What conditions are treated with PrTMS?
Anxiety
When someone is in a high state of fear or stress, the brain’s electrical activity varies from normal brainwaves. PrTMS can restore brainwaves to normal functioning, thereby relieving the anxiety.
Depression
For years, psychological experts have known that some regions of the brain correlate with emotions and mood. They have also learned that the brainwaves of people who live with depression are different from the brainwaves of those who don’t. When brainwaves are irregular, it means that nerves are not firing in the way they should, which results in depressive symptoms. PrTMS can help people with depression by changing their brainwaves to optimal functioning.
PTSD
After experiencing a traumatic event, brainwave patterns can change, reflecting neuron activity changes. These electrical changes cause the symptoms of PTSD. PrTMS can change brainwaves and restore them to normal, improving PTSD symptoms.
ADHD
Children and adults with ADHD often have difficulty controlling their emotions, staying focused and on-task, and planning and carrying out goal-oriented activities. The root cause of ADHD is typically faulty brain activity or irregular brainwaves. In other words, children with ADHD aren’t purposely acting out; they’re struggling because their brains can’t take in all the information correctly. PrTMS is a safe option for kids and adults to help regulate brainwave activity, so they can get relief from their symptoms.
Sleep disorders
Historically, the electroencephalograms (EEGs) of people with sleep disorders have irregular brainwaves, compared to the brain activity in people with no sleep issues. With regular PrTMS treatments, brain activity becomes more regulated, thus improving any problems caused by unhealthy brainwaves.
Concussion
After sustaining a concussion, brainwave activity changes. A concussion is a serious injury that requires medical attention. Even if the symptoms seem mild, it’s important to rule out any possibility of brain swelling or a skull fracture. In many cases, irregular brainwaves will regulate themselves as the person heals, but if they have post-concussion syndrome, this means that their brain activity has not returned to normal. This can be treated with PrTMS.
Brain fog
While the exact cause of brain fog is not fully understood, it is thought to be linked to poor sleep, stress, and certain medical conditions. PrTMS helps relieve symptoms of brain fog by improving communication between different areas of the brain.
Performance enhancement
High-stress jobs, sports, and other activities can cause the brain to become overloaded. This can lead to a decrease in performance. PrTMS can help by reducing stress and anxiety, which can disrupt brainwave activity. This, in turn, will improve focus and concentration.
The Difference Between TMS and PrTMS
Traditional transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is more of a one-size-fits-all approach where all patients receive a similar course of therapy. PrTMS, on the other hand, incorporates diagnostic assessments and a brain function analysis to develop a more personalized treatment plan. This helps to ensure that each patient receives the optimal dose of TMS therapy for their individual needs.
In addition, PrTMS is designed to target specific areas of the brain that are believed to be responsible for the mental health symptoms a person is experiencing. As a result, PrTMS can give a more customized approach to treatment.
Are you a good candidate for PrTMS treatment?
PrTMS can be beneficial for a wide variety of people, but the treatment is typically recommended for patients who have failed to respond to other forms of therapy, such as medication or cognitive behavioral therapy. In addition, PrTMS may be an option for patients who are unable to take antidepressant medication due to side effects or medical contraindications. It’s best to discuss with your physician or mental health provider if PrTMS would be a good option for you.
Are there any side effects of PrTMS treatment?
PrTMS is generally considered to be safe, with few side effects reported. The most common ones are dizziness, mild headaches, or tingling sensations during or shortly after treatment. These side effects typically don’t last more than a couple of hours.
How long does PrTMS treatment take, and how many sessions are required?
The number of sessions necessary varies depending on the intensity of the condition, but a typical session lasts around 30 minutes over a course of 6 -8 weeks. Treatments are daily, Monday – Friday. All of this takes place on a schedule that works for you. We routinely measure your brain waves each week to monitor progress and to further tailor your treatment plan.
Our EEG maps your brain’s electrical activity. With this technology, we can measure 19 areas of your brain in 4 minutes. Your quantitative EEG results tell us how your brain is working. The qualitative information from the neurocognitive surveys helps us understand how you are feeling. Together, this helps us make a treatment plan that is specific to you and your needs.
